The Glacier Express is a train ride which lasts about 6 hours and travels from St. Moritz, through the Swiss Alps, to Zermatt, Switzerland. It’s known as the most beautiful train ride in the world.
I booked this a day in advance and was able to get the last seat. I opted out of the meal since it was an additional 20 Swiss Franks. The cost with my Eurorail pass was about 76 Swiss Franks for 2nd class. Without the Eurorail pass, it would’ve been 145 CHF which translates to about $150.
The Eurorail pass was actually not good to and from Zermatt since that train resides outside of the Eurorail service. Just a heads up for anyone wanting to do the Glacier Express and also purchased the Eurorail pass that you’ll have to pay extra. However, if you’re going from Brig to Zermatt or vice versa, your Eurorail pass should cover you.
The first 4 hours of the ride was unreal. It was like floating in the clouds. The last 1-2 hours is great for a nap.
8:45am – Glacier Express is here and getting ready to depart Zermatt at 9am.
And we’re off!
A Swiss town that can almost touch the clouds.
Fore! A golf course nestled in the Swiss Alps.
Passengers eating a meal and taking a shot of a small lake.
This was a pretty common occurrence during the ride. A lot, and I mean a lot of picture taking.
How ’bout this view while you eat!
The Glacier Express is an experience that one must try in their lifetime. It’s something I know I will never forget.
