My first day in Iceland I was able to spend some time over at Hallgrimskirkja Church. The church is literally a couple blocks away and was viewable from my bedroom window. And it was pretty amazing stepping inside. The ceilings must have been at least 50 feet up to the top.
The church is just ridiculously massive. When standing from the front, I had to stand back quite a ways to get the whole church into the frame. Don’t ask me who the dude in the front is, I’m not one for reading every historical backstory of a landmark.
When I got there, I spent a little time sitting down. There was a calming effect about being inside there.
The organ and organ pipes were behind the pews which was a little odd. In the churches I grew up seeing, they were always in the front.
I bought a $6 ticket to take the elevator to the top which in 682 Icelandic. $1 is equal to about 114 Iceland currency. Here’s the shot I got from the top which kind of reminds me of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.
